PROJECT: The house at Hampton Vale was a new build for a disabled client, using insulated concrete blockwork for low U values, as well as mechanical heat ventilated recovery systems and photo-voltaic panels

STATUS:  Completed

This spacious, single-storey house is arranged around an open courtyard to the rear, maximising the amount of light and solar gain for the property.

The facades feature a refined palette of stone, timber, aluminium, zinc and a white render to break up the facade and create visual interest externally.

The horizontal timber cladding has been specified as Pine (pressure treated) Thermowood with a thin dual-chamfer profile. This detailing has created a contemporary finish whilst allowing the colour to fade naturally overtime and sit more sensitively within its context.

Double-height suspended ceilings with perimeter lighting create open, flexible spaces which face south, and provide marginal solar gains for the house to reduce the need for additional heating.

The external stone is continued inside to create a feature wall within the living and entry spaces to create a continuity between interior and exterior.

The interior features wide circulation spaces flooded with natural light via full-length windows, in order to create inviting accessible spaces.
